So day 6 is upon us, and the routine has somewhat set in. Nothing big going on with the UUBL, I continue to lose at a steady pace, which makes me happy. down to 221.9. Kinda wondering when the rate will begin to taper off a bit.
I have been playing my Paulele the last couple days, because, while I like it a lot, I don't baby it as much as my KoAloha, so I will lay it down unprotected where the kids/dogs are, which makes it much easier to just play while up in the main part of the house. Spent some time last night down in the bedroom with the KoAloha, and got a chill as I was reminded why I fell in love with this instrument. It just plays so smooth, and rings so clear. I am so happy to have this Uke. Which, I wouldn't, if it weren't for my wonderful wife. As a way of a little back ground, I had never really been a fan of the KoAloha look, so never showed much interest in them. I was thinking of getting a LoPrinzi, and was trying several out at the local Uke store, but just wasn't feeling it. I would still like to try a LoPrinze Nova sometime, and possibly add it to my collection, as I hear they are a wonderful instrument, but that is for another day. So, hadtried all the LoPrinzies on the wall, and several others as well, and on a whim, I picked up the KoAloah, and it was love at first strum. I have no explanation, other than there was a connection, and it said take me, I'm yours. With 6 kids, and a wife out of work, there is not a lot of spare $$ just sitting around for impulse buys, so I immediately began my savings plan, and visited several times a week, hoping each time that it would still be there. My wife, realizing my obsession, took money she had earned in one of her side hobbies, and put a down payment on the Uke, and made arrangements with the owner, to hold it, until we could pay the rest off, which we did as quickly as we could accumulate the extra money. Needless to say this Uke has a special place in my heart, and I have the best wife in the whole world, who is willing to feed my obsession. :)

That's a great story about the Koaloha Mike. Your wife is wonderful. I think the best my wife can do for me in regards to the uke is not give me a hard time. I am now selling two and purchased a Kanilea tenor. This will give me a Kamaka 8 string, Kanilea super tenor, KoAloha concert, and a Brad Donaldson custom soprano (on order). I also have a Kala travel concert which is use "when I travel" and to just take out to the back yard or beach when I can.
ReplyDeleteYou are right in how easy the KoAloha is to play and how it rings so clear. It is unbelievably musical. You just barely touch it and you get a great sound. It has become my go to uke.
Interestingly, the night of my vertigo attack, I had earlier picked up the KoAloha and I just could not get it to sound right. Where the night before I played 4 hours, that night, I played 15 minutes and had to put it down. Things just were not right.
I am glad I am getting the weight off. I can't help but to think the weight has something to do with my health issues. I am determined. My nutritionist comes tomorrow to deliver some more whey protein. I think I will tell him that I am serious about starting back. I am already doing the diet. It just helps to have this big guy come to the house each week with a scale. You know- the scale does not lie.
Well, I hope you continue to feel better, and I agree, getting the weight off has to help with health issues.
